Benjamin Harrison, affectionately known as Ben or Bennie, was born in 1857 in Brunswick County, Virginia. Benjamin grew up on the small Harrison Farm in rural Ante, Brunswick County, Virginia with his siblings John, James, Samuel, Sallie, and Richard.
Benjamin Harrison appears in the 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1930 U.S. Federal Census records for Brunswick County, Virginia. Unfortunately, most of the 1890 Census records were destroyed in a fire at the United States Department of Commerce building in Washington, D.C., on January 10, 1921. The 1920 U.S. Federal Census is being researched.
Benjamin married Mary “Mollie” Powell on Saturday, March 2, 1878, in Brunswick County, Virginia. Mary’s parents were Harriett Philips and father unknown.
Benjamin and Mollie lived in a rural area off Brandy Creek Road, in the unincorporated community of Ante, within the Powellton District of Brunswick County, Virginia. Brunswick County, established in 1720, was formed from parts of Prince George, Surry, and Isle of Wight counties.
