James Harrison, often referred to as Jim or Jimmie, was born in Brunswick County, Virginia. James was raised alongside his siblings - John, Benjamin, Samuel, Sallie, and Richard - on the Harrison Farm in rural Ante, Brunswick County.
James Harrison appears in the 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920 U.S. Federal Census records for Greensville County, Virginia. Unfortunately, most of the 1890 Census records were destroyed in a fire at the United States Department of Commerce building in Washington, D.C., on January 10, 1921.
James Harrison married Rowena Davis on Wednesday, December 29, 1875, in Greensville County, Virginia. Rowena was the daughter of Anderson Davis and Clara Pointer-Davis, as documented in the Virginia Marriage Registers from 1853 to 1935.
